Water Guns and Emergency Rooms

Despite some serious lack of sleep, yesterday the boys were full of energy! We've been kinda busy lately and that has thrown off nap and bed times. But, that hasn't slowed these boys down at all! They have been going to bed later, waking up earlier, and taking shorter naps. I don't know who told kids that's how it works, but if anyone finds out who it was, please let me know because I believe he (yes, he! There's no way a woman would do that to other moms!) deserves a swift kick in the rear. Anyway, I was trying really hard to finish folding the laundry that has been sitting on my love seat for a day or two. Okay, it's been there since this weekend, but who's counting? The boys, of course, thought that unfolding the clothes I had just folded would be a fun activity. Mommy, not so much. So...outside they go! And yes, they are only half-clothed, shoeless, and had yet to be bathed yet. Sue me!

Did I say half-clothed? Ok, so Jordan was clothes-less.

To redeem myself, I am going to tell you that after they played outside for a while, they did get bathed, teeth brushed, and were dressed in very cute clothes...all before naptime! Unfortunately, there are still two loads of laundry sitting on the couch. And yes, they are still unfolded. I'm thinking about taking on a new approach and just leaving the clothes there until they are needed. Folding and putting them away is just a waste of time! Ok, who am I kidding? My OCD will get the best of me and I'll be up until Carl gets home tonight at about 11:00 (Update: his flight has now been delayed 45 minutes. Ugh!) finishing it all up.

And, onto the ER portion of the blog. CJ and Jordan have both had colds for a couple of days, so I called their pediatrician and scheduled appointments for next week. We'll be flying to North Carolina in a week-and-a-half, and I want to make sure the boys are completely healthy for the flight so I'm not taking any precautions. You know you have been on a plane before with a child screaming because the pressure is getting to his ears. Well, all my luck, that would be my kids, only I would be screaming even louder out of frustration. Well, CJ started complaining that his neck was sore. I chalked it up to the cold and gave him some acetaminophen (generic, of course, due to the massive children's medicine recall). Well (go ahead and prepare Bad Mommy of the Day award for me) later in the day he began screaming that his neck hurt and that he couldn't move his head. To my horror, I saw a huge lump on the back of his neck. And it was hard. So, I rushed him to the ER with the worst possible scenarios running through my head (yes, Sarah Bernhardt here). After seeing the doctor and having x-rays done, they diagnosed him with a neck sprain that is causing muscle spasms. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, he was helping Uncle Frankt (Frank) clean the fish tank yesterday and fell off the chair. So, it's warm compresses, massage (would someone like to do the honor of spraining my neck for me?!), and ibuprofen for him. Which reminds me: I still need to go to Target to buy some ibuprofen since my Motrin was included in the recall. He seems to be doing a little better today. I've also been doing some neck stretches on him that I learned when Jordan was in physical therapy. We still have the appointment next week with the pediatrician, so I'm hoping he'll be all better by then.

  1. Poor thing! I'm sure you were freaking out when you found the lump, I know how Mommy brains work. I always get paranoid when the boys have an abundance of bruises, I always assume they have leukemia. I drive Wayman nuts with all my worrying.
